Mohamaya Irrigation project is the second-largest man-made lake constructed in Bangladesh after Kaptai lake, at a cost of BDT 23 crore in Mirsarai Upazila of  Chittagong district. The government is also planning to install a 50 kW mini hydroelectric power plant here. A rubber dam is built to preserve the water from the three main streams from the hillocks nearby. It was inaugurated by our Prime minister during December of 2010. Nowadays a lot of tourists use to visit this place.

How to go there:

From Dhaka, you can go to Chittagong by road, rail, and air. You will find many bus services including Saudia, Unique, Green Line, Hanif Enterprise, Shyamoli, Shohag, S. Alam, etc. There are both AC and Non-AC buses that leave for Chittagong. It will cost per seat for the buses that vary from BDT 480 to 1200.

If you want to travel from Dhaka to Chittagong by train, you can travel from Kamalapur or airport railway stations to Sonar Bangla, Subarno Express, Tula-Nishitha, Metropolitan Morning / Godhuli, Chittagong Mail. Ticket prices start from Tk 125-1100 depends on the train, sit quality, etc.

Ticket prices for non-AC bus range from Tk 480-600 and for AC bus it is from Tk 700-1200.

Besides, many airlines operate direct flights to Dhaka from Chittagong. NovoAir, US Bangla, Bangladesh Airlines, and Regent Airways operate their flight from capital city Dhaka. Fair depends on the frequency and booking date. On an average fair is Tk 2700 - 5500.

First, you have to come to Mirsharai (Mostan Nagor of Dhaka-Chittagong highway) from Chittagong by Bus. Then take any CNG driven auto rickshaw and it will drop you near to the Mohamaya Project. Mohamaya rubber dam stands 7 kilometers from Mirsharai Upazila.

Available Food:

‘Mezbani Mangso (Mezzainna Goshto)’ and ‘Dried Fish (Shutki)’ are the two principle preparation of foods with a unique taste, which are famous in Chittagong.

The 1st one is made of beef with various kinds of spices/masala, which attracts people with its unique smell/taste and served with other added dishes eg. ‘Bone Soup (Nolar Jhol)’, ‘Chonar Dal', ‘Boiled Rice (Shiddho Vaat)’ etc.

The later is used to make many dishes/salad/appetizers eg. ‘Shutki Vorta’, ‘Begun-Shutki Torkari' etc.

Winter is usually the best choice for traveling to Chittagong for beautiful weather at that time you can visit Mohamaya Lake. Chittagong is open all over the year for tourists.
